Transport Security – Aviation

The Transport Security and Contingencies team (TRANSEC) has a responsibility to ensure the security of passengers, workers and cargo in airports and during transit. This section provides details about the work undertaken in this area, together with a list of aviation related agencies that are regulated by the Department for Transport.

With effect from 7 January 2008, the one item restriction will no longer apply at certain airports.

Airport Security Planning Quick Guide

A summary of the Airport Security Planning framework set out in the Policing and Crime Act 2009. All security stakeholders at each airport are required to work together to produce a joint threat and risk assessment for their airport and an agreed Airport Security Plan. Where there is a dedicated police resource identified in the Plan, the airport operator, chief constable and police authority must additionally agree a Police Services Agreement.

Aviation security training

The aim of this document is to provide certified DfT trainers with the necessary information to enable them to deliver training primarily to UK Aerodrome Managers, Aircraft Operators in the UK, Security Approved Air Cargo Agents and In-flight Supplies Companies on aviation security.
