Social inclusion
One of the Department for Transport’s strategic objectives is to promote greater equality of opportunity for all citizens, with the desired outcome of achieving a fairer society. The Department is looking to eenhance social inclusion and the regeneration of deprived or remote areas by enabling disadvantaged people to connect with employment opportunities, key local services, social networks and goods through improving accessibility, availability, affordability and acceptability.
Sustainable travel
An important objective underlying the whole of the Department's transport strategy is balancing the need to travel with the need to improve quality of life.
Transport and Works Act
The Transport and Works Act Orders Unit (TWAOU) processes applications under the Transport and Works Act 1992 for powers to construct and operate railways, tramways and other guided transport schemes, and works which interfere with navigational rights.
